What is Your Interior Design Style? (Part 1)

It’s one of the first questions that we ask clients to help determine the direction of a project. And today we’re asking you! But don’t worry, even if you’re not exactly sure where your taste falls, we’re here to help you learn about the most popular design styles – and discover your own!

There are many different popular interior design styles, ranging from modern to traditional, to lesser-known styles like boho or organic modern. And while we are highlighting 9 of the most common home interior design styles, this is not meant to be the end-all-be-all list. Styles are constantly changing and evolving, and many if not most people can be a combo of several different styles. So today, it’s a crash course in home decor styles, as we share the fundamental principles and help guide you towards your ideal interior style!

1. COASTAL LIVING

Coastal style indeed captures the essence of a casual, beachy atmosphere. It emphasizes incorporating the natural elements of the coast into your home’s interior design. White-washed woods, blue tones, and ample white accents are commonly used to create a bright and airy ambiance that reflects the coastal environment. It’s a popular choice for those who want to evoke a relaxed and seaside feel in their living spaces.

2. BOHEMIAN

In recent years, the Bohemian style, also known as Boho, has gained immense popularity, despite its origins dating back much further. Embracing natural and organic elements, Boho is renowned for its layered and collected appearance. This style incorporates cane, rattan, bamboo, various patterns, and textiles, all blended with vibrant and saturated colors. The result is an exotic, playful, and intricately layered ambiance that captivates the eye.

3. ORGANIC MODERN

Organic modern style exudes a neutral, inviting, and polished yet casual vibe. It shares similarities with modern design in its clean aesthetic and color palette, but its focus is on layering neutral textiles and textures to add interest, rather than introducing additional colors. Light-toned woods and relaxed textiles blend harmoniously in this style, complemented by iconic lighting elements in black, brass, and chrome finishes. The result is a beautifully balanced and serene interior that exudes timeless elegance.

4. SKANDINAVIAN

Scandinavian design, inspired by its Nordic origins, reflects a simplistic and minimalistic approach akin to organic modern style. Soft pastel colors are sparingly used, accompanied by light-toned woods, whites, creams, and tans. This design style is inviting, simple, and clean, while exuding a warm and relaxed ambiance in its overall styling. Its roots in the corner of the world it is named after infuse it with a distinct charm and cozy atmosphere.

5. COUNTRY

Country style offers a more traditional and classic interpretation of the farmhouse look, in contrast to modern farmhouse. It embraces simple materials that have been utilized for decades, such as rustic wood, plaid, gingham, and stripes, along with spindle back furniture. Additionally, country interiors may incorporate vintage signage, barn lighting, or reclaimed wood to further enhance the nostalgic and charming atmosphere.
